Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) has completed a capital raise, totalling $3.6 million, via the issue of around 368.2 million shares at $0.01 per share.

The funds, combined with existing cash and liquid investments, position Alma to fully fund stage three of the Briggs earn-in under its joint venture agreement with Canterbury Resources (ASX:CBY). This will enable Alma to reach a 70% joint venture interest in the project.

Tranche two of the placement, subject to shareholder approval, will comprise around 31.8 million shares. Shareholder approval is expected to be gained at a general meeting in June.

In April 2026, Alma began a drilling campaign at Briggs, with the aim of expanding and upgrading the resource ahead of a Prefeasibility Study.

Up to 1,250m of exploration drilling will be conducted across four holes to test surface geochemical copper anomalism outside of the resource estimate, as well as 12,500m of infill drilling across 41 holes to convert the estimate from inferred to indicated, both to be completed by the end of 2026.

The overall drilling campaign is expected to be completed in the next 12–15 months.

Alma says the primary objectives of drilling include resource conversion, to test depth extensions of known mineralisation, and drilling at ‘high-priority’ extensional targets to grow the total contained copper beyond 2 million tonnes at a 0.15% copper cut-off.

Briggs also hosts a current resource of 73 million pounds of molybdenum and 16.5 million ounces of silver in indicated and inferred categories.

Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) has completed an oversubscribed share placement to raise $4 million to fund drilling at the Briggs Copper Project in Queensland.

The company will issue 400 million shares at an issue price of $0.01 per share in two tranches, representing a 16.7% discount to the last trading price and a 23.8% discount to the volume-weighted average price.

Tranche one will include the issuance of 368.2 million shares on or around 14 May 2026. The remaining 31.8 million shares will be issued to directors in tranche two, which is subject to shareholder approval at an upcoming general meeting in June 2026.

Directors who have elected to participate in this placement include Executive Chairman Alasdair Cooke for $225,000, independent director Valentine Chitalu for $50,000, non-executive director John Dean for $25,000, and Managing Director Dr Frazer Tabeart for $18,000.

Chieftain Securities is acting as the sole Lead Manager for this placement.

Funds will be used for a drilling campaign at Briggs aimed at converting inferred resources to the indicated category to support a Prefeasibility Study.

Alma will also use the funds to support metallurgical testwork and environmental baseline studies.

Managing Director Frazer Tabeart says the placement reflects “genuine investor confidence in Briggs” and what the company has done to advance it.

“With this funding in place, we are well positioned to execute our drilling program and associated prefeasibility studies, all at a time when the fundamentals for large-scale copper assets in tier-one jurisdictions have rarely been stronger,” Tabeart adds.

“We welcome new shareholders and are grateful for the continued support of existing shareholders, including our substantial holders who again demonstrated their conviction in the company.”

As reported by Mining.com.au, the company started a ‘major’ drilling campaign at the Briggs Copper Project late last month, including 1,250m of exploration drilling across four holes and 12,500m of infill drilling across 41 holes.

These drilling initiatives are expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with the overall campaign to be completed in the next 12–15 months.

Alma Metals is an Australian copper explorer focused on its projects in Queensland and the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Briggs also hosts a current resource of 73 million pounds of molybdenum and 16.5 million ounces of silver in indicated and inferred categories.

Managing Director Frazer Tabeart says the beginning of drilling is “one of the most significant milestones” for the project’s history.

“With 2 million tonnes of contained copper already defined at a 0.15% cut-off, a near-surface indicated resource supporting early mine planning, and a system that remains open to the west and at depth with excellent grades in our deepest holes — the resource upside here is genuinely compelling,” Tabeart says.

“This program is about systematically realising that potential, building the geological confidence needed for prefeasibility studies, and transitioning from explorer to developer.”

The RIU Explorers Conference kicks off at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges in Western Australia from 17-19 February, to host up to 130 Australian Securities Exchange-listed companies.

Speaking to Mining.com.au ahead of the Fremantle event, RIU Conferences General Manager and Vertical Events Business Development Manager Jaxon Crabb explains that the conference is opportune for explorers seeking funds.

“When you consider that a large number of our participating resources companies are still in the exploration stage, they desperately need investors to fund their exploration activities,” Crabb tells this news service.

“One of RIU’s great strengths – and it’s not just at the RIU Explorers Conference, but also at our RIU Sydney Resources Roundup – is that we have built a reputation on delivering a high caliber of like-minded, educated, astute, and diverse range of investors.

“It is for this reason that both our RIU Explorers Conference and RIU Sydney Resources Roundup are so popular with the resources industry.”

Companies such as Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) see great value in attending the conference, with Managing Director Frazer Tabeart describing RIU as “one of the most effective forums”.

“Our key objective is to engage with existing and new investors to communicate the scale and momentum behind the Briggs Copper Project,” Tabeart tells this news service.

“This is a particular focus as we advance through prefeasibility studies and into our next major drilling phase.”

Alma Metals is presenting at 5.30pm AWST on the opening day of the conference, addressing resource growth and confidence upgrades, results from drilling programs, and ongoing technical and engineering studies from the Briggs Copper Project in Queensland, as reported by Mining.com.au.

Other companies attending this year’s program include Alligator Energy (ASX:AGE), Black Canyon (ASX:BCA), Horizon Minerals (ASX:HRZ), PC Gold (ASX:PC2), Renegade Exploration (ASX:RNX), Solis Minerals (ASX:SLM), and Venari Minerals (ASX:VMS).

“The standup benefit for those that are attending this conference for the first time is the weight of numbers of people from this one industry,” Crabb adds.

“RIU’s goal this year is to keep providing a platform for the resources industry to come together and benefit from the opportunities that exist in a well organized conference environment.

“We want to ensure that our events stay relevant and effective.”

The RIU Explorers Conference will be held in Fremantle, Western Australia at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges from 17-19 February 2026.
“It has the perfect balance of the main industries that make up the resources sector,” RIU Conferences General Manager and Vertical Events Business Development Manager Jaxon Crabb describes the upcoming RIU Explorers Conference to Mining.com.au.

The RIU Explorers Conference, held in Fremantle, Western Australia, is kicking off next week, featuring mineral explorers and resources investors alike from 17-19 February 2026.

Held at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges in Western Australia, Crabb says the conference continues to grow its popularity due to this balance of attendees.

“First and foremost, this conference has the largest number of both junior and mid-cap sized ASX-listed resources companies that participate at an event in Australia,” Crabb tells this news service.

“It also has a large number of the key service providers who provide the service and equipment for the resources companies to operate, and probably most importantly we pride ourselves on ensuring that the RIU explorers conference brings the largest and most diverse range of investors.”

The 2026 program has seen an increase in delegate registrations from last year’s record highs.

The RIU Explorers Conference brought in 2,400 delegates last year, with a record number of registrations. By 27 January 2026, the conference had received 300 more registrations than the same day last year.

“This, together with the strength of the current resources market, gives us great confidence the 2026 RIU Explorers Conference will exceed last year‘s delegate numbers and hit a new record,” Crabb says.

As reported by Mining.com.au, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) December 2025 Resources and Energy Quarterly forecasts a slower 2026 for resources and energy sectors before a modest recovery in 2027.

The global outlook forecasts the recovery to follow on from the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) growth of 3.2% in 2025 and 3.1% in 2026.

DISR outlines that 2026 will bring a year of struggles for the resources and energy sectors due to global trade restrictions.

Gold on everyone’s mind

It’s the commodity that separates the riches from the rags, and its price is only continuing to create conversations across the mining community.

On 29 January 2026, the price of gold hit a brand new record of over US$5,500 per ounce, as reported by Mining.com.au, before retreating back to the upper end of the US$4,000.

Trading Economics reports the precious metal to have retreated to around US$4,600 on 2 February, before hitting back up to US$4,818 the following day, indicating an increase of 68.99% for this year over year.

“I expect gold to be one of the main discussion points during the conference, particularly the current gold price, and if the price has hit its highest point or if there could be more uplift in the gold price,” Crabb explains.

There’s no guarantee the commodity will creep back above its recent record ahead of the 2026 program at RIU, though PC Gold (ASX:PC2) CEO Ashley Pattison tells this news service that the company expects a strong performance from gold in 2026.

“If gold prices remain at elevated levels, producers should be generating significant cash, and that typically drives more M&A (mergers and acquisitions) activity as larger companies look to deploy capital and secure future growth,” Pattison tells Mining.com.au.

“That environment is generally supportive for quality developers and explorers with scale, strong fundamentals and clear pathways to growth.”

PC Gold will be presenting in this year’s program at 4.10pm AWST on 17 February.

The company is focused on upgrading the resource estimate at the Spring Hill Project in the Northern Territory, which currently hosts 821,000 ounces of gold with expansion potential across a 5km mineralised corridor.

Fremantle brings home the money

In the mining hub of Australia, Western Australia is central to many explorers and resources investors, making Fremantle opportune for the RIU Explorers Conference.

“RIU works because it brings everyone together in one place, and Fremantle is a great location – easy for brokers and investors to get to, and consistently well attended by ASX explorers and developers,” Pattison adds.

Pattison explains to this news service that RIU is a great opportunity for early stage explorers as it connects companies with peers and investors by creating opportunities to share how assets are progressing.

“When you consider that a large number of our participating resources companies are still in the exploration stage, they desperately need investors to fund their exploration activities,” Crabb tells Mining.com.au.

“Some of the main benefits for those who are interested in attending the RIU Explorers Conference for the first time is that you have such a high concentration of the major participants from the resources and investment industry at one location.

“People who are from Perth typically base themselves down in Fremantle for the week, therefore, those that are traveling from other parts of Australia will have many many opportunities to connect and engage and create business opportunities with the local Perth people.

“Another benefit of the event is that there are a number of social events in the evenings. These events are effective in building on the new relationships started during the day.”

Crabb explains that the Fremantle program has continued to deliver “high calibre like-minded, educated, astute, diverse range of investors”.

Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) is one Australian copper explorer setting off to the conference this month.

Managing Director Frazer Tabeart tells Mining.com.au that the Fremantle-based conference stands out each year from its competitors as it “consistently attracts a high-quality audience of serious investors, brokers, and industry participants who are genuinely engaged with early-stage and development stories”.

“As one of the first major conferences on the calendar each year, attendees are rested, refreshed and ready to engage,” Tabeart says.

“Being held in Western Australia, the heart of Australia’s resources industry, adds to the depth and relevance of the event.

“The format also encourages meaningful one-on-one discussions rather than just presentations, which is particularly valuable for companies like Alma that are moving into an important development phase.”

The RIU Explorers Conference will be held in Fremantle, Western Australia between 17-19 February 2026 at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges in Western Australia. Mining.com.au is a media partner for this conference.

Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) is looking to connect with investors at the RIU Explorers Conference to highlight the “scale and momentum” behind its Briggs Copper Project in Queensland, Managing Director Frazer Tabeart tells Mining.com.au.

“For Alma, RIU has proven to be one of the most effective forums for building long-term investor relationships and that’s why we’ve returned again this year,” Tabeart tells this news service.

“The conference consistently delivers high-quality, engaging conversations with investors and brokers who understand the sector, allowing us to test ideas, gather market feedback and build momentum around the Briggs story in a focused and productive environment.”

The company is presenting at 5.30pm AWST on the opening day of the conference, which is held from 17-19 February at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges in Western Australia.

Alma is currently focusing on advancing the Briggs Project through Prefeasibility studies into its next drilling phase.

“It’s also an opportunity to amplify the Briggs story, a 2 million tonnes copper deposit in a tier-one jurisdiction at a time when the copper market is increasingly buoyant,” Tabeart adds.

“We see RIU as an ideal platform to build longer-term relationships with institutions, brokers, and strategic groups as we continue positioning Alma for development.”

Trading Economics reports the copper price sitting at US$5.93 ($8.49) per pound on 3 February 2026, representing a 36.33% increase for this year over year.

As reported by Mining.com.au last month, Alma is positioned to continue drilling at Briggs within two months.

The company has received its final assay results from the 2025 drilling campaign, which returned the project’s longest mineralised intersection recorded to date with 620m @ 0.25% copper, 30 parts per million molybdenum, and 0.70 grams per tonne silver from near-surface.

At Alma’s RIU presentation on 17 February, the company will address key points including resource growth and confidence upgrades, results from drilling programs, as well as ongoing technical and engineering studies.

Tabeart says the presentation will address how the company is positioning the Briggs Project to become “a large-scale, long-life copper operation in a tier-one jurisdiction at a time of tightening global copper supply”.

According to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) December 2025 Resources and Energy Quarterly, Australia is placed as the second leader for copper resources globally, producing 210,000 tonnes of copper at the country’s largest mine in 2024.

While production is expected to continue rising, the DISR quarterly forecasts the supply to struggle to keep up with demand over a medium term.

Global annual mine output growth declined to 1.4% from 1.7% in 2025 due to major disruptions including mudslides, seismic events, tailings constraints, and rock collapses.

Australia’s copper output dropped to 548,000 tonnes of copper in the first nine months of 2025, though the 2025-26 forecast predicts copper mine output to remain unchanged.

As reported by Mining.com.au, Australia’s output in 2026-27 is forecast to decrease by as much as 3% due to lower company guidance.

Alma Metals is an Australian copper explorer focused on the development of the Briggs Copper Project in Queensland.

The company is presenting at the RIU Explorers Conference in Fremantle, Western Australia being held from 17-19 February. Mining.com.au is an official media partner of this year’s event.

Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) is planning to continue drilling within two months at the Briggs Copper Project in Queensland, following receiving the final assay results from the 2025 drill program.

This year’s drilling will test areas of strong copper anomalism to the northwest of the recently completed drilling program and is the first stage of high-priority infill drilling for a recently approved Prefeasibility Study (PFS). Additional holes are planned to also expand the resource estimate footprint.

Alma, which has a market capitalisation of $29 million, reports the latest assays confirm zones of strong copper mineralisation in the exact locations predicted by the current geological model. The company adds this provides further confidence in the scale and continuity of the mineralised zone.

One of the final assay results include 620m @ 0.25% copper, 30 parts per million (ppm) molybdenum, and 0.70 grams per tonne silver from near-surface – representing the longest mineralised intersection recorded to date at Briggs.

Some of the other results include 386.1m @ 0.26% copper, 17ppm molybdenum, and 0.74% silver, including 30m @ 0.90% copper, 13ppm molybdenum and 2.65g/t silver.

The strongly mineralised intersections in these holes will support extensions to the depth of the indicated resource portion of the resource estimate and extend near-surface mineralisation that could support a higher grade starter pit.

Managing Director Frazer Tabeart says with copper markets increasingly buoyant and supply constraints becoming more evident, the scale and quality of Briggs stand out in a tightening global copper market.

“We look forward to building on this momentum as we move into a significant year of drilling and PFS advancement during 2026,” Tabeart says.

As previously reported, global law firm White & Case states in its Mining & Metals 2026 report that copper is expected to be a “big winner” in 2026, following strong price growth over 2025 with both commodities outperforming US and European equity indices.

According to Trading Economics, copper’s price has risen 6.88% over the past month, and is up 40.16% compared to the same time last year. At the time of writing, the critical mineral’s spot price sat at US$5.9 per pound.

Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) has received partial assays from a deep drillhole from the Briggs Project’s resource in Queensland, which Managing Director Frazer Tabeart says reinforces the “scale and economic significance of the contact zones”.

Drillhole 25BRD0037, which was drilled through the Briggs resource to 809.9m, has returned assays from the top 231.2m. The core logging indicates the strongest copper mineralisation and alteration is visible 100m either side of the contact between the porphyritic granodiorite and the enclosing volcanic sediments at 472m.

The results include 222.2m @ 0.26% copper, 48 parts per million (ppm) molybdenum, 0.72 grams per tonne silver from 9m, including 54m @ 0.31% copper, 54ppm molybdenum, and 0.83g/t silver from 62m.

Tabeart adds that the hole marks an “excellent” start to the expanded infill drill program that will form a core component of the Prefeasibility Study (PFS) at Briggs.

“We await the assays for the remainder of the hole, which includes a 200m zone with very good visual estimates trading the southwest intrusive contact, which could further strengthen this result,” he says.

Yet less than 10 Mo operations are currently primary mines – in the others it’s a byproduct of copper. Only two active primary moly mines currently operate outside of China – both in Colorado, US, reflecting declining Western output.

Of the nearly 700 copper mines around the world just 60 reportedly also produce moly.

Molybdenum has a higher supply risk than copper, nickel, lead, zinc, as well as lithium. Given the metal is officially listed as a critical mineral in Canada, China, and Japan there are concerns in the future this could lead to export restrictions from China, which accounts for 45% of global output.

Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) has extended the ongoing drilling program at the Briggs Copper Project in Queensland, with a new hole which will test below the peak of the surface copper-in-soils geochemical anomaly.

Data from the program is anticipated to inform ongoing technical studies and support further resource expansion and metallurgical domaining, enhancing project definition.

This news comes after completing deep core drillhole 25BRD0037 which was designed to drill through the resource estimate and test versatile time-domain electromagnetic anomaly.

Alma, which has a market capitalisation of $14.85 million, says logging of the drill core indicates that porphyry copper-style mineralisation is present along the entire length of the core with the strongest copper mineralisation and alteration visible 100m either side of the contact.

The assay results are expected within three weeks, with assays for the remainder of the hole to follow over the subsequent four to six weeks.

Managing Director Frazer Tabeart says drilling of the deepest hole to date provides validation of the block model developed from the resource estimate.

“The deeper drilling shows that the VTEM anomaly is spatially related to narrow sulphide veins associated with distal porphyry mineralisation in volcanic sediments, adding to our geological knowledge of this huge system,” Tabeart says.

“With copper prices remaining strong and supply constraints persisting globally, the timing of our Scoping Study, now nearing completion, positions Alma well to advance Briggs as a meaningful contributor to Australia’s next-generation copper pipeline.”

The Briggs Project, covering 245km2, hosts a resource of 415 million tonnes @ 0.25% copper and 31 parts per million molybdenum.

Alma Metals is an Australian copper explorer focused on its projects in Queensland and the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Alma Metals (ASX:ALM) is focused on unlocking the full potential of its Briggs Copper Project in Queensland and is progressing drilling to tap into what lies deep below the surface.

In April, the company received a $250,000 grant under the Queensland Government’s Collaborative Exploration Initiative (CEI) to drill to a depth of 900m through the entire mineralised system.

Managing Director Frazer Tabeart tells Mining.com.au success could reshape the company’s understanding of the Briggs system, potentially unlocking further scale and grade upside, and strengthening the development case for the project.

“The deep drill hole is designed to test a compelling versatile time domain electromagnetic (VTEM) geophysical anomaly located adjacent to the southwest side of the current mineral resource estimate,” he explains.

The anomaly was identified in 2015 during a VTEM survey commissioned by previous owner, Rio Tinto Exploration.

The aim of drilling is to probe the potential for a deeper, higher-grade mineralised system beneath the existing resource, which currently contains 2 million tonnes of copper and is the subject of a Scoping Study.

Alma believes the target may represent a different, previously undrilled phase of the Briggs felsic intrusive complex, potentially with higher grades.

This fresh round of drilling will also provide geological and geochemical vectors to support ongoing resource modelling and potential resource expansion as well as contribute to metallurgical and alteration studies.

The target is a resistivity low (conductive high) and may have higher copper and molybdenum grades that would have a material positive impact on project economics if confirmed.

Additionally, Alma is nearing completion of a Scoping Study, which is slated for release in the coming quarter.

The study is assessing the potential development of a large-scale, long-life open cut mine with conventional crushing, grinding and flotation processing to produce a marketable copper concentrate.

Scoping Study points to ‘robust’ economics

While the results are still pending for the Scoping Study, Tabeart says early findings suggest a “robust” open pit development scenario and high copper recoveries at coarse primary grind sizes.

Locked-cycle flotation testing has achieved copper recoveries of up to 95% into clean, high-grade concentrates containing as much as 29% copper, even when using coarse grinding sizes.

Tabeart says this is significant because coarse grinding reduces energy consumption, high recoveries maximise revenue potential, and clean concentrates enhance offtake appeal and reduce processing complexity.

Collectively, these advantages signal potentially lower unit operating costs and improved project economics.

Briggs also has infrastructure advantages due to its proximity to the Port of Gladstone, rail, power and gas, and no fatal flaws were identified in environmental desktop studies.

“These findings collectively support the project’s viability and competitiveness,” Tabeart notes.

The next steps to be taken in the environmental assessment include the commencement of baseline studies to support future permitting activities, engaging with stakeholders and regulators to align on development pathways and integrating environmental data into feasibility-level planning.

Briggs is a porphyry deposit, a large source of copper – accounting for over 60% of global supply, as well as other in-demand metals such as molybdenum, gold and silver.

In April, Alma increased the confidence of the resource and included the reporting of molybdenum and silver byproducts for the first time.

Drilling completed last year provided sufficient data density to update part of the resource to the indicated category to support a Scoping Study.

The updated resource also includes a small oxide resource that Alma believes may have “significant value” once further evaluation has been completed.

“The recent conversion of 25% of the Briggs resource into the indicated category is a major milestone,” Tabeart says.

“It enhances confidence in the deposit’s continuity and grade, and provides a stronger foundation for economic modelling and development planning within the Scoping Study framework.”

Byproducts enhance revenue and project appeal

Using a 0.15% copper cut-off grade, the resource now contains 2 million tonnes of copper, 73 million pounds of molybdenum and 16.5 million ounces of silver.

The upgraded resource, which was based on a total inventory of 12,009m of drilling across 58 holes, extends down from the surface.

The high tonnage of the indicated resource could potentially support a higher-grade starter pit with a low to very low strip ratio, according to Alma.

The inclusion of the molybdenum and silver has the ability to enhance project economics because of the potential additional revenue generated from the sale of these metals.

Metallurgical testwork resulted in recoveries of up to 73% molybdenum with up to 3,200ppm molybdenum in concentrates, while payable levels of silver graded at up to 72g/t silver in concentrates.

Tabeart says there is broader market appeal for multi-metal concentrates from buyers, and the company’s strategy aligns with current critical minerals demand.

Heading into the latter part of the year, Alma expects to release the results of the Scoping Study and the assays from the CEI-funded deep drill hole.

Alma raised $1.06 million in late June to enable it to reach these milestones, but has mapped out further plans for the next six to 12 months, which it plans to seek additional funds for. This includes follow-up drilling campaigns targeting higher grades and increased resource confidence.

To continue evolving the resource during that time, the company will incorporate new drilling data – including the deep hole, investigate potential expansion into adjacent zones, upgrade more of the inferred material into the higher confidence indicated category and refine the geological and metallurgical domain modelling.

“These updates will feed into future economic studies and development planning,” Tabeart says.

“Briggs is emerging as one of Australia’s most strategically positioned copper projects, combining scale, infrastructure access, and growing technical momentum, at a time when developing a large-scale asset in a tier-one jurisdiction has never been more compelling.

“Alma Metals is focused on unlocking its full potential through disciplined exploration, transparent communication, and proactive engagement with investors and partners.”
